Murders Across The World

     Our world, as far back as history goes has been filled with hatred that has resulted in many murders. There are thousands of reasons why a person would be driven to kill another person, although none of them are legit reasons, in my opinion. I also feel as though no one should ever get away with it, even if it is just for a little while, as it was with Drew Peterson's case. The good people cannot seem to stop others from causing harm, seeing as how there is a new case being investigated every week. 

     

     Drew Peterson, a former Illinois police officer, was convicted on September 6th, 2012 of murdering his third wife Kathleen Savio in 2004. Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow said, "He was a thug, he would threaten people because he had a gun and a badge. Nobody would take him on. But we took him on, and he lost!" At first, Savio's death was deemed an accident. That is until Peterson's fourth wife began missing in 2007. The prosecutors built their case on hearsay. Prosecutors claimed "Hearsay would let his third and fourth wives speak from their graves through family and friends to convict Peterson." Juror Ron Supalo was prompted to cast his vote to convict Peterson based on the volume of witnesses testifying against him. Peterson was sentenced to a maximum 60- year prison term.

     On September 11th, 2012, the United States Ambassador for Libya, along with three other Americans were murdered.

"The assault on the American consulate in Libya consisted of two separate attacks that forced the Americans from the consulate and then besieged them in a second building in a gun battle that lasted four and half hours, according to a detailed timeline from a senior administration official. The bloody offensive by extremists killed Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans. In addition, three more U.S. personnel were wounded," said Dana Hughes. Everyone is wondering what the real reason behind the attacks were. It's still being investigated.

     In El Reno, Oklahoma Joshua Durcho was charged of murder.  "An Oklahoma man accused in the deaths of his ex-girlfriend and her four children has pleaded guilty to five counts of first-degree murder, thus avoiding a death sentence," said associated press. Joshua will not get the possibility of parole but also will not get the death sentence.

     In Birmingham, Alabama an ex-professor was accused of murder.  "A former biology professor accused of pulling a gun from her purse and opening fire at a faculty meeting pleaded guilty Tuesday to killing three colleagues and wounding three others at the University of Alabama in Huntsville in 2010. Amy Bishop, 47, pleaded guilty to one count of capital murder involving two or more people and three counts of attempted murder during a hearing in Huntsville. She had earlier pleaded not guilty, and her lawyers said she planned to use an insanity defense. Prosecutors agreed to recommend a sentence of life without parole for the capital charge, and three life sentences for the attempted murder charges. Sentencing will follow a brief trial on Sept. 24 before Madison County Circuit Judge Alan Mann.," said press, Denise Lavoie and Jay Lindsay. Now that Amy Bishop has pleaded guilty, she should still go to jail after the trial on the 24th.

    In these four short paragraphs, I was able to tell about four different murder cases that all happened in a matter of days. In my opinion, none of the killers had a good reason to kill and so I'm proud that two of the cases in America were sent to court and both guys went to jail. Justice was served for the victims and their families. Soon the other killer in America will be in jail also. I hope to see more cases where they actually do serve justice than the ones that do not.

Four World Trade Center PEE Paragraph

The building represents freedom for the United States of America. The building is 1,776 feet tall which is the year America became free from Britain. The building represents freedom because the attack in 2001 on the original building was against Christianity.

My Bucket List 2012-2013

1. The Faith Between Us by Peter Bebergal and Scott Korb

I want to read this book because I like learning about other faiths and finding out how people chose that faith and why they are afraid to tell people what they believe. My mom got me the book as a present for Christmas so I figure I might as well read it.

2. What I Was by Meg Rosoff

I want to read this book because it is about a person who is experiencing first love. Towards the end of his life, he looks back on the relationship that has shaped and obsessed him for almost a century. The author has won many awards for other novels, so I'm hoping this is just as good.

3. Mafia Summer by E. Duke Vincent

I want to read this book because I like reading books about mystery/murder/suspense. I have tried reading it before but only read a couple of pages and it seems really interesting. I got it because for some reason, the cover was really appealing.

4. The Interpretation of Murder by Jed Rubenfeld

Again, I want to read this book because it is a mystery/murder/suspense book. My brother read it and said it was really good. Usually if he likes a book, I end up liking it too.

5. Trial By Fire by J.A. Jance

I am actually not sure why I want to read this book. I have noticed it in my grand-parents house a few times and the title and cover both seemed interesting to me. It seems like a mystery/crime book.

6. American Outrage by Tim Green

I want to read this book because it is kind of political and I like political books especially when people disagree because you get so many opinions on the subject. Besides that reason, I think I've seen the author's name some where else and may have read another book of his.

7. Imperfect Endings by Zoe Fitzgerald Carter

I want to read this book because the title interests me. Everyone at some point in their life has/will experience an "imperfect" ending. I am predicting that someone in the book will think it is an imperfect ending when really it will end up having a better outcome than what they expected.

8. Six Suspects by Vikas Swarup

Everything about this book interests me. The title suggests that it is a mystery book. The cover is red and orange (Symboling fire?) and also has six silhouettes on it. The author's name is what is really the most stand out thing about this book and is what first caught my eye.

9. The Worst Thing If Done by Ursula Hegi

I want to read this book because the title is really interesting and so is the picture on the cover. The book is about the ever-shifting boundaries of love and desire. The book has different parts that different characters narrate which I have always found interesting for some reason.

10. Hate Mail From Cheerleaders by Rick Reilly

I want to read this because Rick Reilly is supposedly really funny and a few of the people who helped write the book or did reviews on it are also really funny. I am hoping I will laugh a lot throughout the book.
